Lyrics

Licking up to the top, lollipop, floating in the midday sun.
Sweet thing floating by lying on a cloud right next to me.
The man with the hammer took a walk, I don't know where he's gone.
My mind went out and took reason to the sea.

Caught an angel in my eye and I guess this must be heaven.
He's got a grin on me and says his name is friendly.
Keeping kind of cool I ask him what he's doing here.
He just smiles and then he says to me .

The world is spinning round and round, it makes a sound, what a sound
Your Angel’s walking with you here, whispers love, in your ear
So take heed to what I sing to you, let your light, shine through

Carol's in the clouds and she's been there since last Tuesday.
She doesn't know it now but she's a little bit in love.
She's a little insecure, very happy and a little bit frightened.
As she walks through her thoughts, she's flying in the clouds above.

Well Tina's got the curves and she doesn't swerve from maybe.
She's come in from the cold and now she's doing fine.
The TV men want to know if she's had enough gravy.
Now Tina's got them hanging on her every line.

The world is spinning round and round, it makes a sound, what a sound
Your Angel’s walking with you here, whispers love, in your ear
So take heed to what I sing to you, let your light, shine through

Really Crazy in Love

Retro-Phil

A comic-strip pop song inspired by a true story (well the crazy dance came much later). The original acoustic version stated life in 1989. The studio version was made in in 2015 and the song was released early in 2016.

Lyrics

Start the music Henry
Looking up and down, I know you do the same.
Getting close, we almost touch, how well you play the game.
Electric is the air around, the sparkle in your eyes.
I love the way you look at me and do you realise?
You burn me up you take me down, you make my heart go round and round.
I'm so excited can't you see? I’m really crazy for you, for you, for you.

Crazy dance Henry
Move you body to the left
Move your body to the right
Put your hands above your head
Take a jump into the night

Move your body to the left
Move your body to the right
Put your hands above your head
Do a twirl but keep it tight

Pulling at my strings, you've got a hold on me.
I just can't fight it now why baby can't you see?
Every day I think of you in a thousand different ways.
I'm riding in your sunset; I'm dancing in your haze.
You burn me up you take me down, you make my heart go round and round.
I'm so excited can't you see? I’m really crazy for you, for you, for you.

You're my sunshine, you're my air, you're my blue sky everywhere.
Schoolboy dreaming, heavenly, sometimes it just has to be.
She's on her way to Kathmandu, in the meantime I'll make do.
Keep in touch, I'll write soon and have a lovely honeymoon.
Well she burns me up she takes me down, she makes my heart go round and round.
I'm so excited can't you see? I’m really crazy in love, in love, in love . . .
Nice dance Henry

The Questioner

Retro-Phil

A rock ballad inspired by a break-up. The song started life in 1989 as an acoustic piece. The studio version was created in 2015.

The Questioner

© Copyright Philip J. Poole 2015

Lyrics

Far away in mind, in body and soul.
Miles apart I wonder how you are?
The distance now between us has taken its toll
and I'm bleeding from my heart.
I cannot say I blame you. I chose to let you go.
I still believe we're better apart.
But every now and then, when I feel so very alone.
The questioner sends in the dark.

Oh my God
What have I done?
Please forgive me
And set us free

Stars in the sky, the moon shines bright.
I'm still awake in the middle of the night.
Battling with an unseen foe, I don't know when it's going to go.
I still think the decision was right.
I know that you're in trouble now. I know that all's not well.
I wish that I could be with you to help.
And even though it's clear, my thoughts wander far.
And the questioner sends in the dark.

Oh my God
What have I done?
Please forgive me
And set us free

There are no rights and wrongs in the story of love.
The fool may have the answer to the rhyme.
But anyhow I know, I did the best I could. Maybe it's just not time.
In my heart I know, wherever you go, even though it might be far.
We will have a bond, keeping us whole.
And I will be with you in the dark.

The Questioner is a rock ballad inspired by a break-up and came out in July 2015. The song started life in 1989 as an acoustic piece. The studio version was created in 2015. The second break in the song has some bars that are 5/4 and I like this effect with the extra beat. The saxophone part was originally a synthesiser but I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Daniel Wacker who kindly played a real saxophone based on the synthesiser part.

I am grateful to all the people who have helped me and I hope you like it.

No One Left to Cry

Retro-Phil

This alternative style song started off life in the late 1980’s when the cold war was in full sway and sweeping changes were to come. It was inspired by possible nuclear war. I finally produced it in 2014. Dark lyrics but I hope they do some good.

No one left to cry © Copyright Philip J. Poole 2015

Lyrics

As the flowers slowly die
and the birds fall from the sky.
What becomes of you and I
when all this is over ?

A thousand times we have seen
and thought of things that could have been.
Technology's silver dream,
could it be obscene ?

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, I hope they will remember us.
As our children slowly die with no-one left to cry.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, I hope they will remember us.
As our children slowly die with no-one left to cry.

There are no more rivers.
There are no more trees.
There are no more people.
Just ashes in the breeze.

Tell me what this was for
because I cannot see.
Why we're here today
to live this destiny.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, I hope they will remember us.
As our children slowly die with no-one left to cry.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, I hope they will remember us.
As our children slowly die with no-one left to cry.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, I hope they will remember us.
As our children slowly die with no-one left to cry.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, I hope they will remember us.

This song started off life in the late 1980's when the cold war was in full sway and sweeping changes were to come. It was inspired by the thought that we have come close to nuclear war on several occasions (1962 and 1983 are the dates that stick in my mind). I don't think it's a war you can win because there will be no one left to cry. Nevertheless it is not all dark - the phonetic message at the start is "love can save us".

I am very fortunate to have had help from Nic and Chris. They are both fine musicians and Nic's drums and Chris' bass are very much appreciated. I must also thank my friend Doris (who is a professional singer in her own right) for doing the backing vocals. She told me that if I ever recorded this song she would like to do them and she did! My son Oliver really wanted to sing this song and actually he kicked me into producing it, so thanks Oliver. His voice is certainly better suited to this song than mine.

My sincere thanks to you all, Retro-Phil

Freedom Fighters

Retro-Phil

This song started life in a jam session in the late 1970’s. The idea being about an alien race somewhere who could show us how to live creative lives without hurting others - setting us free! A sort of retro-rock piece.

Freedom fighters

Lyrics

We’re the freedom fighters, we come from far away.
We’ll be here tomorrow but we won’t be here today.
The darkness of the future is poised to reign supreme
The freedom fighters fire destroying Lucifer’s dream

On the day of judgement, the people stand and scream.
“Is God to blame or is it us? Whatever can it mean?”
It’s us but we don’t see it. I think that you’ll agree
Freedom fight for freedom, we must have liberty.

Now we have our darkness, our freedom like the sea
Chained within ourselves, longing to be free
Aquarius shall dawn across humanity
A universal song in love and harmony

This song started life in a jam session in the late 1970’s. The idea being about an alien race somewhere who could show us how to live creative lives without hurting others - setting us free! I have always wanted to record this song. I know it is simple and probably a little naive but that’s why I like it.

I asked Oliver (my son) if he would like to sing on this song and I didn’t have to ask twice.

After releasing “Where do you want to go?” the local TV station asked me during an interview if I was still in contact with the original group members from the 1970’s. This prompted me to get into contact with Nic Burrows, the original drummer. Now as luck would have it, Nic has his own recording studio in the UK and really wanted to play drums on Freedom Fighters.

His friend Chris Smith (co-owner of the studio) kindly supervised the drum recording and did initial drum production. Chris also supplied an overdrive electric guitar track that I gladly included.

My sincere thanks to you all
