Freedom Fighters

Retro-Phil

This song started life in a jam session in the late 1970’s. The idea being about an alien race somewhere who could show us how to live creative lives without hurting others - setting us free! A sort of retro-rock piece.

We’re the freedom fighters, we come from far away.
We’ll be here tomorrow

Lyrics

We’re the freedom fighters, we come from far away.
We’ll be here tomorrow but we won’t be here today.
The darkness of the future is poised to reign supreme
The freedom fighters fire destroying Lucifer’s dream

On the day of judgement, the people stand and scream.
“Is God to blame or is it us? Whatever can it mean?”
It’s us but we don’t see it. I think that you’ll agree
Freedom fight for freedom, we must have liberty.

Now we have our darkness, our freedom like the sea
Chained within ourselves, longing to be free
Aquarius shall dawn across humanity
A universal song in love and harmony

This song started life in a jam session in the late 1970’s. The idea being about an alien race somewhere who could show us how to live creative lives without hurting others - setting us free! I have always wanted to record this song. I know it is simple and probably a little naive but that’s why I like it.

I asked Oliver (my son) if he would like to sing on this song and I didn’t have to ask twice.

After releasing “Where do you want to go?” the local TV station asked me during an interview if I was still in contact with the original group members from the 1970’s. This prompted me to get into contact with Nic Burrows, the original drummer. Now as luck would have it, Nic has his own recording studio in the UK and really wanted to play drums on Freedom Fighters.

His friend Chris Smith (co-owner of the studio) kindly supervised the drum recording and did initial drum production. Chris also supplied an overdrive electric guitar track that I gladly included.

My sincere thanks to you all
